In 2006, Kristin ran against longtime incumbent Al Jaeger for Secretary of State of North Dakota.

At the age of 26, Kristin was the youngest candidate for a statewide election in the nation. Despite it being her first foray into running for office, she ran a close race with the 14-year incumbent taking 44% of the vote.
