KMM featured as Aerospace Manufacturer of the Future
ORLANDO, FL (April 15)- The Vice President and Chief Engineer of North Dakota's own Killdeer Mountain Manufacturing (KMM) have been asked to speak at one of the largest and most prestigious gatherings of the advanced technology communities at the RFID Journal Live 2010 conference in Orlando, Florida this week.
KMM's Vice President Kristin Hedger and Chief Engineer Jeremy Mercer travel to address more than 2000 members of the aerospace, health, and defense industries on the benefits that KMM has been able to demonstrate by incorporating e-commerce practices in the company's unique distributed manufacturing production model.
KMM was founded in 1987 by Don Hedger with the stated goal of providing jobs to small communities in western North Dakota. "While traditional manufacturers focus on getting large numbers of production workers under one roof and incorporating multiple fixed shifts, KMM has maintained a commitment to putting quality of life in our communities first," said Kristin Hedger. "As a result, we have always sought to be at the forefront in new methods of cutting waste in our process and working hand-in-glove with our customers."
Over 20 years ago, there was a real perception that western North Dakota would be too isolated to contribute parts that would need to be shipped around the world for final assembly. "We had to be innovative to ensure that our customers knew they could count on us to get them a quality product on time. Today, with technology and e-commerce practices, we have had the opportunity to become the leaders in transparent manufacturing. The e-commerce visibility also keeps each of our sites 'in the loop' as KMM takes on more production and remains committed to my grandfather's vision of providing aerospace quality jobs in rural areas in our state" said Hedger.
"At the end of the day, we are all about our North Dakota communities and supporting our world-class customers to the best of our abilities. It is an honor to represent North Dakota to the world industry leaders and share ways American manufacturing as a whole can 'step up our game,'" said Hedger.
KMM was one of three companies nominated for the 2010 RFID Integrator of the Year Award for being one of the first medium sized manufacturers to incorporate automated data relay through RFID in production lines.
